#44 Driving a transition to clean construction

Our built environment is also one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and drives a significant  amount of air pollution in our cities.

The ‘Clean Construction’ approach promotes the reduction of air pollutants from construction activities. The Government of India launched the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), in 2019, that aims to reduce air pollution levels by 20-30% by 2024.

In this episode we invited a guest who represents the private sector: Kristin Sæterøy. She has hands on knowledge on clean construction.

Kristin Sæterøy is the Managing Director of Aneo Build. She has more than 20 years of experience from the telecom/IT industry both nationally and internationally. Kristin has built up several companies over the years. And the last 2 years she has built Ohmia Construction, now Aneo Build, which has a focus on electrifying the Building and Construction Industry.

We asked her:

  • How do you as a private company help construction sites to be zero-emission?
  • The construction sector alone is responsible for more than 23% of global green house gas emissions and consumes more than 30% of global resources. What are the classical hurdles a construction site will have to overcome in order to be defined as clean construction?
  • Iconic skylines to beautiful architecture, buildings and infrastructure define our cities. What kind of materials are used today, which alternatives do we have to promoted from the earliest planning stages of building projects to help achieve net-zero buildings and cities?
  • Cities aim to reduce embodied emissions by at least 50% for all new buildings and major retrofits by 2030, striving for at least 30% by 2025. Is this realistic in cities like Oslo and Mumbai?
  • We have 7 years left to reach the The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. What can we expect in regard to Clean construction?
